HEY! It’s been a very long time since I updated this, but I have quite a few new things to post and I’m going to try to do this more regularly. Today’s item is a lamp that was found in the garbage sometime last summer. It’s got some sweet owls on it and it does still work. I just need to find a place for it in my house.

Today’s find is one that was found 1 year ago this month, as still probably the greatest find yet. A bass guitar and a Fender Bassman amp. The bass didn’t work very well and was a no-brand beginner bass. There was also a few problems with the amp as well. It turned on, but had a really bad buzz to it. I ended up selling them all to pay bills, but it goes to show that digging through the trash can be very beneficial sometimes.

So I’m still posting bikes. I would have finished this a while ago, but I’m lazy. Here is an old Murray Monterey bike we found in the trash a long time ago that’s just been sitting at my house. One day I hope to get all these bikes fixed up to either sell or keep at my house for when friends come over and ride.

Last Friday began the start of the (3rd or 4th?) annual Bike Week festival here in Sandusky, Ohio. It goes to June 3rd - 12th and is easily the most annoying 10 days all year long. I bring this up because in “honor” of Bike Week I’ll be posting a different bike I’ve found in the trash for the next couple of days.

The first bike is one that was found a couple of years ago and has since become my own personal bike. It looks like it’s been painted over a few times (the chipping paint has revealed it was once red). And although I can’t figure out exactly what make, model, or year my bike is, after comparing a lot of photographs I’ve decided it’s possibly a Murray from somewhere between the 50s and 70s. It’s pretty rickety and I’ve been meaning to get it fixed up for a while but it hasn’t given out on me yet, and I love my bike.

Here is another item found by Cody in his travels on the back of the truck. A headless, handless garden statue. He reports that the head and hands were missing upon his finding of it. The statue is now owned by Sarah Barker (as seen in the picture) and will no doubt be turned into something 10x more awesome/creepy by her.

This is a autographed Gallagher tshirt that was found in the trash. It also has “BFI employee of the year” written on it. Not sure if that was done by Gallagher himself, the person who threw it away, or one of our guys as a joke. Either way, Gallagher sucks.

Here is an old bottle of 7up. It’s only 7 fluid ounces, like most of the original beverage companies were before they decided to start super-sizing everything. The slogans on the bottle are “You Like it, It Likes You” and “Fresh Up with 7up!”. According to Wikipedia, those slogans were both used between 1936 and 1957. So the bottle apparently comes from sometime within that time period. The bottle itself wouldn’t be too extraordinary, however it’s unopened and all the pop is still inside. The cap is rusted, but still tightly sealed. I wonder if it would kill me if I took a drink of it. I kind of really want to.

Lee Reynolds

Here is a painting that was found in the trash not too long ago. It’s really big, as you can see from the picture next to the garbage truck. It’s an actual oil painting, but I can’t tell if it’s a reproduction or not. I deciphered the name to be Lee Reynolds, and a google search shows that he’s actually a really famous painter with most of his paintings on ebay going for between $500 and $3000. I would like to get a professional opinion on this painting to see if it’s worth anything.

Happy Friday! Today’s find actually coincided with the day of the week. It’s a “Rules Of The House” sign from a TGI Friday’s restaurant. It appears to be pretty old. I think I might save it and clean it up and hang it in my house. I might change it to say feather boas are mandatory though.

This find is a slab of concrete in the shape of Ohio that commemorates Ohio’s bicentennial in 2003. Somebody must have felt super proud to live in Ohio when it was 200 years old but decided they didn’t like it anymore when it was 208.

Here is another item Cody found. It’s antlers mounted on plaque with fake fur. I think it’s supposed to be a jackalope maybe. The fur doesn’t seem like a rabbit’s fur though and the area that it takes up is much bigger than a rabbits head. So I’m not really sure what this thing is all about, but it’s weird and I like it.

Here is a toy Honda semi truck I found sticking out of a trash can. It’s pretty detailed, but I guess someone didn’t care too much about it because the passenger side door (not visible in the picture) and front grill had been ripped off. Perhaps that’s why it got thrown away? Either way, it’s now on display out in the truck garage.

Here is another find from Cody Kirkendall. He recently discovered this two foot tall tyrannosaurus rex toy. It looks like it’s mouth had been taped at one point and it’s covered with white paint on it’s back. When Cody showed it to me, he told me he was naming it Reptar. I told him Reptar was green and he said he didn’t care, he will paint it green.

Here is a mouse dressed as a train conductor. The pin on it’s litte overalls indicates that it’s from the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum in Bellevue, Ohio. It currently resides on one of the desks in the garbage company office.

Today’s post is every 12 year old boys dream find. A giant box of Playboys. Although I suppose with the internet, preteen boys probably really don’t care much about Playboys. Leafing through them, they seem to be mostly 90s issues, so not much collector value there. There is a Marilyn Monroe Anniversary issue. Nothing evokes more nostalgia than a finding a box of Playboys.
